Description

The Maṣḥafa saʿātāt is a version of the Maṣḥafa saʿātāt, a Church service made up of psalms, biblical readings and hymns. It includes the entire Psalter in its daily pensum. Its witnesses "with no psalms at compline or in the midnight office, but with thirty psalms and three canticles in each of the other five hours" 270 follow the Ethiopian distribution of the psalter. The three other types of Maṣḥafa saʿātāt identified by 266 are: : the Coptic Saʿātāt; : the Saʿātāt of Giyorgis of Saglā, which replaced the : and is presently in use in Ethiopia and Eritrea; : a cursus of prayers which is not really a Saʿātāt, but a Gize ṣalot for hermits and recluses.
