Description

Saʿātāt za-gǝbṣ is a version of the Maṣḥafa saʿātāt, a Church service made up of psalms, biblical readings and hymns. It is taken from the Copto-Arabic tradition. The date of the translation into Gǝʿǝz is unknown, according to the teachers of the Qǝddāse bet, it was spread in the 13th century by Takla Hāymānot and his monastic network. The three other types of Maṣḥafa saʿātāt identified by 266 are: : the Saʿātāt of Giyorgis of Saglā, which replaced the : and is presently in use in Ethiopia and Eritrea; : a Saʿātāt that includes the entire Psalter in the daily pensum; : a cursus of prayers which is not really a Saʿātāt, but a Gize ṣalot for hermits and recluses.
